The 14th Annual Tour de Walkerville took place on Saturday, 1st May 2010

Our motto is “Worker’s Day is Walker’s Day in Walkerville!  Whether you chose to walk, ride a horse, a bicycle, or even a tractor, build a float, or ride a motorbike, you would have had a great time on Saturday 1st May 2010!

Once again we sold more tickets and raised more money than previous years.  7am on Saturday morning saw gloomy skies rolling into Walkerville but after a few drops they moved on and we thought we were clear … but minutes later the rain thundered down and a lot of people headed for their cars and home!  Those that stayed on were determined to enjoy the day, and what a great time we had.  From 6 to sixty (and even older) little dogs, big dogs, horses , bikes and hundreds of Scouts in their immaculate uniforms, and many children from our local charities took part in the 11 kilometre walk.  Mayor Nast and Councilors Smit, Jones and Hutchinson were there to start the walk and get everyone off to a smooth start..

All of our local venues had planned a fabulous afternoon of entertainment, there were live bands, comedians, marimba bands, speedway racing, free give-aways, and there were really great prizes up for grabs - hampers from the Friendly Grocer, gift vouchers and prizes from our local businesses.

Everything we raise goes to charities based in Walkerville and the surrounding areas.  Everyone who works throughout the year for the Tour de Walkerville is a volunteer and not one cent goes towards our running costs!  This year we have 20 charities on the list and we hope to be able to give them all a nice big cheque.  It is not too late if you would like to make a donation to the Tour de Walkerville.  Please call Elaine on 082 573 2780, Alison on 083 498 8896 or e-mail info@walkervillesa.co.za for the bank details (2010 donations close on 12th May 2010). If your company is looking to sponsor a charity please consider adopting ‘locally’.  All the charities in the 2010 draw, as well as details of the work they are doing and who to contact are listed on local charities.

The organisers of the 2010 Tour de Walkerville would like to thank the Midvaal Local Municipality for their support, as well as the Walkerville CPF and Midvaal Traffic Department for their assistance during the event … and off course all our wonderful volunteers, marshals, prize sponsors, donors and especially ALL THE WALKERS! – we could not do it without you!

See you in Walkerville next “Walker’s Day” 1st May 2011!
